How to Keep Electric Bills Down This Summer

Dec 24, 2021

Electricity is one of the modern innovations that we wouldn’t know what to do without. It is absolutely essential that all homes be supplied with ample electricity. Come summer time, you’ll be using more appliances more than normal: your air conditioner, refrigerator, fans, and other equipment will be used much more regularly. And with that increased use comes more money out of your pocket and into the utility company’s bank account.

What should you do? Here are some ways you can keep that money to yourself this summer:

Keep your AC clean

Whether that means cleaning the air filter more regularly, or making sure you stay ahead with a routine service call, it’s critical that your indoor and outdoor units be thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and tuned-up. In all honesty, a professional maintenance plan is your best bet. Not only will you save on your energy bills, but your system will last much longer as a result. It also takes all the worry out of your life and into the hands of a professional trained to deal with such matters. You can learn more about ours here.

Adjust your thermostat to a higher temperature

If you’re looking for something simple that you can do right now, have a look at your thermostat. Raise the temperature by 2 degrees. If you can still stand to be indoors, then congratulations, you’ve just saved a substantial chunk of cash. If you have a ceiling fan installed, you can probably raise it even 4 or 5 degrees.

Don’t be afraid of the dark

Lamps and other lights produce heat. The fewer you have running at any time in your home, the better. Not only will you be trimming your electric bill by cutting down on the lights, but you’ll also be cutting down on the amount of ambient heat in your home, which reduces the load on your AC.
